PRE-KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER
May
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please read the entire newsletter as it informs you to what your child has/is learning during the month of May.
Social development, ongoing- rules and routines, raising hand to speak, using good manners, sharing and taking turns, listening and following directions, center time issues
Gross Motor Skills-spatial development, movement
Cognitive Development- patterns, opposites, size order, identifying letters and sounds for the alphabet, writing letters, counting, identifying numbers 1 to 12, writing numbers 1 to 12, one to one correspondence with numbers, number sets, sorting skills, rhyming words, story sequence, recalling stories, graphing..
Fine Motor Skills- writing left to right, tracing dotted lines, gluing-using a drop of glue, advanced cutting skills, pegs, shapes, puzzles, eye-hand coordination skills, painting.
Religion- Mother’s Day, Mary, God gave us flowers, God gave us water, God gave us animals
Science- Flowers, plants, volcanoes, water, animals, farm animals, the five senses, transportation
REMINDERS:
1. Please check your child’s folder on a daily basis and remove items. Praise your child and review items learned in school.
2. Please practice alphabet writing, number writing and identification of both alphabet letters and numbers, name writing.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Friday, May 4 - Early Dismissal Day
8:15 – 11:40 (all pre-k students)
Thursday, May 17 – Ascension Thursday – No school
Thursday, May 23 - Field Day
Monday, May 28 – Memorial Day – No School
Tuesday, May 29 - Trip to Green Meadows Farm
The last full day for pre-kindergarten is June 12th .
Pre-kindergarten step-up is June 13th.
