Welcome to the Resurrection Ascension Reading Center. I would like to take this opportunity to give you a breakdown of what types of activities we are currently working on.
Each week we devote some time to the Dolch Sight Word list. It is so important for the children to practice reading from this list each night. My goal for the students is to teach them how to recognize the words and read them quickly without having to sound them out. The Dolch Sight words are some of the most commonly used words and it is so important for the children to be able to read them.
We have also begun to read short stories and write about what we have read. This is a difficult and demanding task, however, the children are doing well!
Keep practicing the reading at home. Every little bit helps!
We are continuing to work heavily on reading comprehension and taking the information from the text to write summaries, lists and even essays. We are learning how to decide what information is important to include in our writing.

I am working closely with Mrs. Jamieson to emulate her Reading lesson, only in a smaller group setting. This gives us the opportunity to address any questions or concerns the students have with the concepts they are working with in the classroom.

We are working on reading comprehension. We are focusing on the events of the stories we read and how to extract the who, what, when, where, why and how content. We are using this information to write sequence lists and summaries.
The key to reading success is to keep practicing! Read a:
magazine
short story
book
newspaper
It doesn't matter what you read; what matters is that you do it every day!
